5 Years Ago Today

Update: Giveaway is closed. Winner announced here.

Hello folks,

It's the 25th September and do you know what day this is? Yes, exactly 5 years ago, also on a Tuesday, I started this blog. Can you believe it? I've been blogging for 5 years.

5 very long years.

You know what that means? I've aged 5 years since that fateful day. I've also put on weight and accumulated a host of health conditions. Other than that, I've pretty much stayed the same. It's as if I ran and ran and still stayed at the same position.

Which is sad. Almost like the 5 years didn't happen. Somewhere at the back (way back) of my head, I had the idea I would become very successful. That money would pour in from advertisers. (make money while I sleep) It didn't.

Which brings us to why not.

Traffic.

Blog traffic.

Not enough.

According to Blogger, since May 2008 when Blogger stated collected stats, my blog has received a total of 376,901 pageviews.

Impressive? Not really. Not over 5 years.

One million pageviews. Now, that's impressive. When will I achieve it?

There are ways to increase traffic.

Like blog every day.
Which I did for 1 month in April.
My stats doubled.

Like write stuff people are interested in reading.
hahahahahaha - I'm too self indulgent.

Like submit my blog posts for syndication.
hahahahahaha - I'm too lazy.

Like write more tutorials.
hahahahahaha - I'm still too lazy.

Like write controversial stuff.
hahahahahaha - seriously, I'm still too lazy. Besides, it's not me.

Anyhoo, what's the point of this post? Other than whining about "boo-hoo, I'm still not successful," here's the deal.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my regular readers (there are probably 50 of you plus, minus) by having a little giveaway.

Yes, people.

THIS IS A GIVEAWAY.

Here's the prize which ONE of you will win, to be selected randomly by random org.

Congratulations on 5 years!
I've just listened to 'Ramble On' by Led Zeppelin! I just got home and this is on the CD in my car!

What beautiful fabric! I want to win! I think you are successful, but maybe not in the way you expected. I understand completely though. I just can't blog every day and still maintain my little business and a home. (My parents live nearby and I go every day to coffee at their house and catch up on their day. It takes a big hunk of time, but is worthwhile.)I just can't function as a person and as a business and do the things some people can. Its just not me no matter how much I wish it were.
Your posts are always funny and/or informative. I feel like you're a friend, although we've never met face to face. That is success. Congratulations on 5 years!

I gave you a plug in my blog!
Also, I forgot to tell you what the last song I listened to was. It was not actually a song, but music from the movie "Chocolat". I have had it playing in my car for a month now. I'm ready to put in the Christmas music!!! Before that I had Elton John's album "Yellow Brick Road" playing. (Santana and Mobey before that!) (I'm all over the place with music!)

The last song I listened to in the car, on the way home this morning was Halo by Evan's Blue. It's been on over and over again this past week.

5 years - congrats!
I keep thinking about this blogging business - it seems there's a glut - everyone has a blog these days. Ebooks I thought were on the rise, then podcasts. Then vlogs. But nothing seems to be really popular & how many social media sites can you participate in to keep readers engaged?

I don't know. I hope your readership goes up. I know I can't complain about not having any readers - I haven't blogged in a while....

Damn it, my last song was "Gangnam Style" by that dear old South Korean bloke - i seriously don't want to but he's been playing on the radio here in the UK cos we "as in the top shot business people" want to get Psy over here to demonstrate his horse straddle dancing!

Congratulations on the 5 years...I too had that idea a long time back - i must emphasise the "long time back" - still too lazy to get off my butt to do it!

Does look rather pretty, i've never really made anything sucessfully, maybe Mr.Random.Org might land on me???

I live in hope.

The last song I listened to was "Here comes a regular" by the Replacements, circa 1986? Not sure why, it's just what the shuffle gave me.
I love your tutorial on the recessed zipper. I've used it on three purses so far.

I forgot to say what song I last heard. It was on the stereo a short while ago - "She's so mean" by Matchbox 20. It is hubby's current fav and he plays it a lot. Oh there it goes agin .... I swear i will get sick of it soon.

Dee said...

I just shared on facebook too.
I was thinking further about success. I know it is important to you. Also how do you measure success? If you measure it in $ then most of us are never gonna get there. Find a way to measure that delights your soul. If doing the best you can and being the best you can is your measure then hold tight to it.
We tend to count what we consider our failures are... but that just means we haven't given up trying yet. Thankfully we get lots of new opportunities. You seem to have been very flat lately. Look after yourself and your family and keep on trying. You are great Jane.

I think the last song I really listened to (instead of zoning out in the car to music) was the Gagnam Style techno-stuff from the You tube video you posted a few days ago. Yikes...can't get out of brain.
